2011 is upon us and honestly we could not wait for 2010 to be over. 2010 was a difficult year for the travel industry as a whole, but especially the cruise business. It seems as though every week a cruise ship somewhere was making international headlines. Every business has its run of fluke incidents, I guess 2010 was the year for cruises.
We did have a ton of great news as well last year. The largest cruise ship ever built, the Norwegian Epic was unveiled and set on it’s maiden voyage on June 24th. The Epic really is an astonishing achievement of engineering weighing in at 155,873 gross tons, capable of carrying 5,800 people and measuring over 2 tenths of a mile long it literally is a floating city.
We can also call 2010 the year of the weather! Hurricanes, blizzards and volcanoes kept meteorologists on their toes and left travelers scrambling for alternate modes of transportation. Most people coped, while others freaked out! It is just another exciting part of traveling abroad, and as they say, if it was easy, everyone would do it!
Many ports of call have seen an increase in both passengers and cruise calls for 2010, and even more expected for 2011. With the economy slowly growing and travelers becoming more savvy, cruises have been the vacation of choice for more and more people. Cruises have always represented a great value for vacationers, and each year cruise lines try to out do each other by offering more deals, more amenities and more activities aboard their vessels.
Finally we would like to take a moment and thank everyone for using our services, reading our blog and continuing to explore the beautiful world around us. We wish you all the best for 2011, and be sure to call us for any of your cruising, or travel needs!
